Liminality, 2020
Pen and Ink, Watercolor on Strathmore paper
20” x 26”
Liminality is a depiction of two worlds at the very threshold between them. Between these two worlds exists the opportunity for a balance, but this balance is constantly being upset by human actions.
The space depicted in harsh light symbolizes the human world, while the darkness beyond the corner of the house symbolizes the natural world. Moments like this are becoming increasingly rare due to our colonization and abuse of every corner of the natural world. The dark beyond the house can be perceived as disturbing, but it is also full of possibility, depth, and freedom. This feeling manifests in the deer creature-Its unfamiliar and magical qualities embody the gift of the unknown.
If we allow the natural world to live in autonomous peace, then we can learn to appreciate the balance that is achieved.
